Pre-reading statement of opinion:  Childhood sports and games are often great outlets for boys and girls. Do you believe it is important for children to play? Why or why not?  Give examples from your own childhood in support of your opinion. 

Post-reading guided summary:  Describe what was exciting and disappointing about Anthony D’Andrea’s quest for signatures on the baseball he had found on the street from the Yankees’ ’43 championship team.  Explain how this childhood memory of this first-generation son of Italian immigrants seemed critical to the development of his self-esteem.
