Choose one of these writing assignments.

1.  Considering the Value of a Proverb:

Arthur Ashe believed in living according to the Golden Rule:  “Do unto others as you would have others do unto you.”  Why is this good advice for living one’s life?  Write a paragraph that explains why this is a good proverb to follow.  Consider the lessons you have learned from your own experiences as you plan this paragraph.

 2.  Going from Notes to Paragraphs:

Select one of the topics of this chapter:  friendship, reading, music, religion.  Compare Arthur Ashe’s view of this topic with your own.  Show in what ways the quality of your life is enhanced by friendship, reading, music, or religion.
