Description of the COMPASS Reading Examination
The CUNY/COMPASS test is an un-timed computer
adaptive exam that assesses your ability
to understand what you read. The way the
exam determines your reading skill level
is by randomly assigning passages and questions
at various levels of difficulty. Passages
and questions are generated based on your
responses to previous questions until an
accurate skill level is ascertained. When
taking the test, you need to keep in mind
that because the test adjusts to your abilities,
the time spent in taking the test and the
types of passages and questions designated
are expected to be different for each student.
Before selecting the best possible answer,
carefully read the choices provided and
take as much time as you need to make a
decision.
