Awards for Excellence
The English Department is pleased to honor three graduating students whose academic performance in English classes has been outstanding throughout their course of study. These awards recognize superior performance in the required composition courses plus at least one English elective.

2007 Recipients:

• Gold Medal Mr. Juan Samuels
• Silver Medal Mr. Aissatou Bah
• Bronze Medal: Ms. Olubunmi Odulate

The English-Speaking Union
The New York Branch of the English-Speaking Union awards $1,000 in cash prizes to Hostos students for excellence in English each spring. The winners in categories I, II, and III are selected from computer printouts of top ranking graduating seniors who entered at the various levels. Winners are students who have received A’s and B’s in college English courses 110 and 111 and English electives. Winners in category IV are selected through an essay contest given each spring. Students write under supervision on a topic which they receive at the time of writing.

Category I
The student who entered Hostos in the ESL sequence and completed the English sequence of courses with distinction.

Category II
The student who entered Hostos in the LIBRA Program (091) and completed the English sequence with distinction

Category III
The student who entered Hostos at the College English level (110) and completed the English sequence with distinction.

Category IV
Student who completed the best essay under supervision.
