The Libra Program

The Libra Program is designed for entering students who have not passed the CUNY-mandated reading and writing tests, and whose native language is English, or who are English dominant. The Core English Program emphasizes communication skills - reading, writing, speaking, listening - in a context of intellectual inquiry focused upon subject matter related to the Health Sciences or Arts and Sciences programs.

The recommended schedule for the student in the first semester of the Libra Program includes:

  • ENG 091 Core English
  • ENG 092 Developmental Reading
  • Core Subject (health sciences, social sciences, visual and performing arts, Africana or Latin American and Caribbean studies, business)
  • Mathematics
  • PED elective
  • SSD 1000 College Orientation

The goal of the Libra Program is to develop those skills which enable the student to succeed in the regular college academic program.
