Faculty Development in Technology
Over the past decade the College has seriously addressed the issue of faculty development in the area of technology. This program has grown substantially over this time frame and currently consists of:
- a state-of-the-art equipped multimedia faculty development room,
- a state-of-the-art equipped and staffed Instructional Technology Support Center designed to provide faculty with the technical support they might need to bring to fruition their curricular innovations,
- a series of technology related workshops that faculty are invited to participate in each semester which are designed to provide hands-on experience with a variety of software packages that facilitate the inclusion of technology in course development or classroom presentation, and
- the assignment of faculty mentors to faculty interested in technologically enhancing their course.
As a consequence of this effort, courses may now be offered using the internet in lieu of the standard on ground presentation. These are classified as either web enhanced, hybrid or asynchronous.
| Web enhanced: | Substantial components of a course are available to student via the internet. The same number of face-to-face class hours are maintained. |
| Hybrid: | From 30% to 70% of the course content is available on the internet and students are required to access that material at their convenience. The number of face-to-face class hours are reduced. |
| Asynchronous: | All course content and communication take place over the internet. Except for an organizational session and testing there are no face-to-face class hours. |
