Each year during the month of March, our campus observes Women’s History Month. Our celebrations follow in a long and rich tradition initiated by both feminist activists and educators. Established by Congressional Resolution first as a week in 1978 and then as a month in 1987, Women's History Month invites teachers and community leaders nationwide to sponsor special events that recognize the diverse achievements of women throughout history.
The Women’s History Month Committee generates cultural and academic activities that honor women whose deeds and thought have enriched culture and the arts, science and medicine, politics, education, social movements and everyday life. Each March, we at Hostos Community College engage our students--and join with them--in learning about the many ways that women have transformed the world.
Committee members, 2007-8 are:
Sarah Brennan, Center for Teaching and Learning
Wally Edgecombe, Center for Culture and the Arts
