Student Association
In 1995, Hostos Community College requested from the
Hostos Community College Student Association Board Members funds to develop an emergency
student loan program that would assist its student body. The Board of Directors approved
an award in the amount of $10,000.00 to the College. These funds were donated with the
condition that our institution administer them as an emergency student loan program. These
conditions include and are not limited to the following situation:
Tuition
Deferrals
Childcare
Housing
Books
It was also agreed upon that funds would not be
used to assist students with outstanding tuition debts nor defaulted loans. Since the
inception of the Hostos Student Association donation, over 100 students have benefited
from this program. In addition, the Office of Financial Aid has secured over 90% of its
original disbursements from loan repayments. As a result of these efforts, it is now a
revolving account that continues to provide vital support to our college community.
NOTE: There is NO
interest on the Student Association Loan.
