Program Overview
The Hostos Emergency Loan Program provides
emergency financial assistance to help promising students continue their studies and to
remain in college.
Hostos Community College enrolls
approximately 3,500 students per semester. Over 80% of our student population rely on
traditional Federal and State financial aid to cover the cost of education. Due to
numerous governmental legislative and university wide policy changes, these traditional
forms of financial assistance have been reduced for our economically disadvantaged
students, this impacting on student retention and graduation.
In an effort to improve retention and
graduation our college has made a major effort to identify non-traditional forms of
student aid. Such funds would assist our students with education-related expenses and any
unusual circumstances that would deny them access to an education at Hostos CC. To this
end, our institution has identified numerous funds that have assisted well over 600
students per academic year.
Students are advised to consult the Office of
Financial Aid for other forms of special funds or non-traditional student aid programs.
