Adjunct Staff Members

The information listed below and the attached materials have been assembled to provide you with information about your benefits and the campus and to highlight some College procedures that pertain to Adjunct staff members.

HUMAN RESOURCES RECORD

REQUIREMENTS: PROOF OF DEGREE:

  • Ph.D or highest degree (original) or
  • A statement, affixed with the institutional seal, from the Registrar of the institution which conferred the highest earned degree.

PENSION AND SOCIAL SECURITY

HEALTH INSURANCE

Health care coverage is available to Adjuncts who meet certain service requirements through the PSC/CUNY Welfare Fund.

Effective on September 1, 1991, the health benefit for qualified Adjuncts became available to those non-teaching Adjuncts who are working ten or more hours per week and who have worked ten or more hours for two consecutive semesters and to those teaching Adjuncts who are teaching six or more hours (or the equivalent) in the semester and who have taught one or more courses for two consecutive semesters (not including summer sessions) provided that said non-teaching and teaching Adjuncts are not covered by other primary health care insurance provided by or through another source. Adjuncts who establish eligibility as provided in this paragraph, which is based upon CUNY-wide service, shall be eligible to receive benefits in the third consecutive semester. Such benefit may be partially contributory by the employee.

If you are teaching less than six hours at one college, even though you may have the necessary additional hours at another college, it is your responsibility to tell each college you are working at that you are also working at another college. If you do not, and a college reports that you are teaching less than six hours, your health coverage will be terminated. You will then receive a COBRA notice. If you do not bring any additional hours to our attention within the time indicated on the COBRA letter, your coverage WILL BE TERMINATED AND WILL NOT BE REINSTATED THIS SEMESTER.

An Adjunct who has established eligibility for this health benefit shall lose eligibility if in any two, of three academic years the Adjunct is employed in only one semester of the year at CUNY.

If you meet the eligibility criteria, call the Office of Human Resources, at extension 6650, for further information and the necessary forms.
