General Statement of Duties and Responsibilities

Under direction, with wide latitude for independent initiative and judgment, may serve as the lead person for programming projects and programs of varied complexity in one or more computer programming specialties in other than Academic Departments; may perform moderately complex technical and professional work; may participate in applications development decisions regarding administrative computing; may perform moderately complex technical work as an individual contributor of a major programming projects; may perform as a technical resource person for the planning and implementation of highly specialized software development, and systems projects in a highly complex environment e.g., main frame, large computer network (LAN), Web development etc. may coordinate and direct work of subordinate staff engaged in professional software development functions of varied complexity. All personnel perform related work.

Examples of Typical Tasks

General

Performs applications systems analysis, design, programming, and implementation to support client departments and administrative information systems.

Develop customized applications as required by users.

Analyze and design applications systems.

Write programs for new and existing applications and features.

Modify existing applications as required.

Implement commercial software packages.

Meet with clients to define data processing needs and to address problem areas.

Define programming/system requirements.

Act as a liaison between client and IT department.

Provide guidance and work leadership to less experienced developers.

Develop procedures related to applications.

Collaborate closely with information resources systems, networks and client services.

Remain current with new and emerging technologies.

If required, perform possible supervisory responsibilities.

Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

The following specific functions will be performed in any computer platform (mainframe, PC, etc.) that the college has at any given time:

  • Write, compile, and execute computer programs (online and batch)
  • Write, compile, test, debug, and execute computer programs to create reports and/or files from SIMS; as well as to update SIMS
  • Prepare test data
  • Debug and test computer systems and programs (online and batch)
  • Document systems and programs as required (online and batch)
  • Create User Guides for computer systems (online and batch)
  • Maintain computer systems and programs (online and batch), and make modifications as required
  • Must be willing to learn the use of new software systems, databases and compilers
  • Assist in surveys and feasibility studies
  • Meet with users to review and analyze computer systems, programs, and reports specifications
  • Provide technical assistance to staff and faculty for the usage of computer technology
  • Write PC applications using Microsoft Visual Basic, Microsoft ACCESS or any other software that the college deems useful
  • Develop web pages using Microsot Frontpage 2000, HTML and other commercial packages.
  • Supervise staff in the absence of higher rank supervisors

Qualifications Requirements

Candidate must have working knowledge in DC COBOL, JCL, IDMS, Wylbur or VM, Microsoft Visual Basic, Microsoft ACCESS, HTML, Java and any web development software (e.g. Dreamweaver). Knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server, experience with a RDBMS and data modeling; familiarity with Windows NT/2000 and Windows 9X from the client perspective is preferred.

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and four years of full time progressively responsible experience in computing and the required field/s; or

2. Education and/or experience equivalent to "1" above. Major in Computer Science may be substituted for up to one year of experience. In Addition, a master's degree in Computer Science from an accredited college may be substituted for additional one year of experience. However, all candidates must have a high school diploma or its equivalent and two years of experience as described in "1" above.

3. Due considerations will be given to the candidates with vendor specific certifications.

Salary: $40,310 - $48,797 per annum.
