POSITION:
Mental Health Counselor
Lecturer, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor
(For appointment in the professorial rank, the doctorate is required)
Duties:
The Mental Health Counselor will provide counseling and develop a wellness
program for community college students. The Counselor will also coordinate
referrals to community resources as part of a comprehensive and proactive
college initiative to respond to student needs for mental health
interventions. S/he will also serve as a resource to the team of Counselors.
The position requires well-honed counseling skills and experience utilizing
crisis intervention protocols with adults and/or college students. The
position also requires successful experience collaborating with adults
and/or college students, faculty, and staff, and a record of success in
managing referral services.
The person selected for this position must be committed to serving ethnical
and linguistically diverse urban community college students. She/he will be
responsible for:

Developing a
prevention-oriented health education program and interventions directed
toward students.

Assessing student
mental health needs and providing appropriate interventions
-
Developing and
maintaining relationships with community resources
-
Coordinating
referrals and follow-up of students to community agencies and resources
-
Providing short-term
mental health counseling interventions for students
-
Assisting with
academic advisement and teaching freshmen orientation class
-
Developing
professional development activities
-
Other duties as
assigned by the Dean and/or Vice President.
Qualifications:
-
Doctorate in
Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or Clinical Psychology
-
License/Certification required
-
Three to five 5
years combined mental health counseling experience, preferably in a higher
education setting with a diverse student body

Excellent
communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills
-
Strong analytical
skills
-
Fluent bilingual
(Spanish/English) preferred
-
Able to work
evenings and weekends, as needed.
Salary:
$37,914 - $65,373 (Commensurate with experience and faculty rank.)
