POSITION:     Assistant Professor – Africana Studies Unit

                         (HUMANITIES DEPARTMENT) 

                         (Anticipated Full-time Tenure Track Position Beginning Fall 2006)
                        

Duties:


To teach courses in cultural anthropology and archeology, African-American history: philosophy, ethics and literature: Social issues and Cultural Studies, and other aspects of African-American, African Caribbean and minority studies. The selected candidate will be actively involved in departmental service, curriculum development, research and scholarly activities leading to professional growth: student guidance and perform other tasks normally associated with a full-time teaching position. He/She will work collaboratively with other scholars in many culture orientated programs of the Africana Studies Unit and the Humanities Department. He/She should be willing to teach evening and weekend (including Sunday) classes.
 



Qualifications:


Earned doctorate in any discipline of the humanities with a concentration in Black Studies, experience teaching at the college level, inter-disciplinary orientation, ability to teach African history, social problems among minorities, ethnicity and health. Three years of teaching experience including two at the college level and experience teaching multicultural student populations in urban educational setting. Evidence of published research works in local and international refereed journals on specific aspects of the humanities will be a plus.

 


Salary:      $35,031 – $61,111

FLSA: Exempt
