As part of the City University of New York (CUNY), Hostos
requires that students take the CUNY basic skills tests in
reading and writing, and mathematics to demonstrate their
proficiency and readiness to do college level work. A test of
Spanish proficiency is given to students who are native speakers
of Spanish. Students who are learners of English as a second
language are administered an ESL placement test.
No student is permitted to register without taking the
required placement tests or showing proof of exemption.
