The Freshman Skills Assessment Program (FSAP) is a series of
three tests: reading comprehension, mathematics, and writing.
The University instituted these tests in 1978 in order to assess
students' readiness in the these three basic academic areas. As
a result of their performance, students may be required to take
remedial or developmental courses in these areas to strengthen
their academic skills, or ESL courses to strengthen their
English language proficiency. After successful completion of
coursework in any of these three areas, students are tested
again on another version of the test. Successful retesting is an
important part of their record.
