WRITING INTENSIVE SECTIONS - SUMMER 2012
Hostos Community College is pleased to offer sections of courses designated Writing Intensive (WI). All students entering as of FALL 2003 are required to complete two WI courses before graduation. These specially designed sections will help you improve your writing skills and your understanding of course materials. Some of the writing you will be doing each week in your WI course will be short and informal (journals, responding to or forming questions, preparing definitions, on-line discussions, etc.) and some will be more formal (revised essays, research papers, reports, etc.). In the end, your Writing Intensive Courses will make you a better writer and communicator, skills highly valued both in college and in the job market.
If you have completed or are taking ENG 110, you may take most WI sections, though some require completion of ENG 111. You may also take one WI course if you have a minimum English-language proficiency level of ENG /ESL 091 as long as that section does not specifically require ENG 110 or higher as a pre or co-requisite. WI courses do not need to be taken at the beginning of your college career, but you should not leave them for the end either. Make your selection from courses in your program or in your distribution series that have been designated as WI courses.
For Summer 2012, sections for the following courses have been designated Writing Intensive:
