
What is College Discovery (CD)?
CD is a personalized approach to provide support services to students who have a high potential to succeed but were never provided the academic preparation to pursue college level work. As a member of the CD Program you will be supported from admissions to graduation. Our committed staff will help you achieve your full potential as a student and as an individual to discover, develop and apply your talents.
Who is eligible for the CD Program?
- 1st time freshmen with a high school average below 80.
- 1st time freshmen with a household income that falls within the guidelines established by the State of New York.
- Residents of New York City only.
What do CD students receive?
In addition to Pell and TAP financial awards, CD students receive:
- Book stipends for up to 6 semesters, plus 3 summers when registered in credit bearing courses (must be 6 credits or more).
- CD pays most of the Student Activity Fee
CD students also participate in and are entitled to:
- Required attendance at a special Summer Discover program to jump-start your education and stipend for attending.
- Academic support that includes tutoring and supplemental instruction to complete and pass remedial courses.
- An opportunity to become part of the CD Academic Excellence cohort
- Participation in the CD Club.
- Dedicated counseling and academic advising from a CD counselor.
- Required enrollment in the CD freshman orientation course (SSD 100).
- Transfer to the SEEK program at a CUNY Senior College, with additional four (4) semesters of the CD book stipend and academic and counseling support.
How to be considered for the CD Program
The only way to be considered for CD is to file a CUNY admissions application and be sure to fill out the SEEK/CD section of the application. Your name will then be forwarded to schools you have chosen through the UAPC allocation process for admission. You will be contacted by those schools to come in and certify eligibility.
