Why Go Through an Orientation?
- To learn about Hostos Community College, our services to you.
- To help you become successful in your college journey.
- To help you become acquainted with the college way of life so that you can more quickly adjust.
- To make you aware of your rights and responsibilities as a student.
What: The first component of your orientation to Hostos Community College is an "in-person" orientation, called New Student Orientation (NSO). Come connect with faculty, staff, and student leaders as well as other new students. Faculty members will be available to speak with you and we will distribute important information and a booklet for you to read which will help you to improve your grades. After that, meet representatives of several departments, such as Student Services, Student Activities, the Hostos Adult Learning Center (HALC), the Peer Advisors, the Writing Center, and the Learning Resource Centers (library) to find out more about their services. Also, representatives of the student government organizations and clubs will be there to tell you more about themselves and welcome you to join them. And, of course, no gathering is complete without food! We will have either breakfast or lunch available for you and your guest(s)!
