NATIONAL AND CUNY SCHOLARSHIPS

ALPFA SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

The Hispanic College Fund (HCF) in partnership with the Association of Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting (ALPFA) has created a new scholarship program.  HCF was founded in 1993 to develop the next generation of Hispanic business leaders in America by awarding scholarships to deserving Hispanic students.  ALPFA founded in 1972, was the first national Hispanic professional association in the United States.  Together, HCF and ALPFA are providing scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students pursuing degrees in accounting or finance-related field.

Eligibility Criteria’s

  • Must be of Hispanic or Hispanic descent
  • Must be a U.S citizen or legal permanent resident
  • Must be a full-time student
  • Must plan to enroll full-time for the 2007-2008 academic year
  • Majoring in Accounting
  • Have a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher.
  • Demonstrate financial need

Scholarship Amount: $1,250 to $5,000

AMERICAN DREAM SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

Established in partnership with the United Negro College Fund, the American Dream Scholarship is open to African-American with financial need.

Eligibility Criteria’s

  • Must be U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • Must be African American
  • Must be enrolled full-time in an accredited community college for the 2007-2008 academic year
  • Must plan to enroll full-time for the 2008-2009 academic year
  • Have a minimum G.P.A of 2.5 or higher
  • Demonstrate financial need
  • Must be eligible for Federal Pell Grant
  • Must have applied for financial aid for 2008-2009

Scholarship Amount: $500 to $5,000

BELLE ZELLER SCHOLARSHIP TRUST

Scholarships are awarded to candidates of good character who provide significant service to CUNY, the community, and their respective college.

Eligibility Criteria’s

  • Must be a full-time student for the Fall and Spring semester
  • Must have completed at least 16 academic credits in any CUNY institution
  • Must have a G.P.A of 3.75 or higher
  • Applicant must show evidence of good character, and significant service to CUNY, the community, and/or their respective colleges by letters, and other documents

THE BRONX DOMINICAN PARADE SCHOLARSHIP

Each year three awards from Hostos Community College are given to students for outstanding academic performance and service to their community.

Eligibility Criteria’s

  • Must be of Dominican descent
  • Must be registered for the Fall 2007 and Spring 2008
  • Must plan to register for the 2008 - 2009 academic year
  • Must be able to show proof of documented community service
  • Have a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher.
  • Must have completed 25 academic credits or more at the time of application
  • Demonstrate financial need

Scholarship Amount: $1,000
Scholarship Deadline:  January 3, 2008
Application: Applications will be available starting December 3, 2007 at the Office of Student Life, Room C-330.


BUICK ACHIEVERS SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

Buick and the GM Foundation announced the launch of the 2012 Buick Achievers Scholarship Program for the 2012-13 school year.  Among the largest scholarships awarded over multiple years, we expanded the program even further this year to include current undergraduate students, as well as high school seniors and graduates.

The program is dedicated to assisting outstanding students interested in studying science, engineering, technology, design, marketing and other related fields, and who lack the financial means to reach their academic goals.  Special consideration also is given to students who are military personnel, veterans or their dependents, as well as women and other minority groups.

In 2011, scholarships were awarded in all 50 states and nearly half were given to students who were the first in their families to attend college.  Applications for the 2012 Buick Achievers Scholarship Program will be accepted online at www.buickachievers.com until February 29, 2012.

FORD MI FUERZA PROGRAM

The Ford Motor Company Fund’s Mi Fuerza Program offers scholarships to high school seniors and undergraduate students who are pursuing majors in business and engineering.

Eligibility Criteria’s

  • Must be of Hispanic or Hispanic descent
  • Must be a U.S citizen or legal permanent resident
  • Must be a full-time student
  • Must plan to enroll full-time for the 2008-2009 academic year
  • Majoring in Business Administration or Engineering
  • Have a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher.
  • Demonstrate financial need

The First in My Family Scholarship Program, developed in partnership with the Hispanic College Fund, offers scholarships to Hispanic-American students who are the first in their family to attend college, and have financial need.

  • Must be a U.S citizen or legal permanent resident
  • Must be a full-time student
  • Must plan to enroll full-time for the 2008-2009 academic year

HSF College Scholarship Program

The College Scholarship Program is available on a competitive basis to community college, four-year college, and graduate students of Hispanic heritage.

Eligibility Criteria’s

  • Must be of Hispanic or Hispanic descent
  • Must be a U.S citizen or legal permanent resident
  • Must be pursuing a first undergraduate or graduate degree
  • Must be a full-time student during the 2008 – 2009 academic year.
  • Must have earned 12 academic credits
  • Have a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher.
  • Must have applied for Federal Financial Aid

Scholarship Amount: $1,000 to $5,000

HSF Community College Transfer Scholarship Program

The Community College Transfer Scholarship Program is designed to assist community college students of Hispanic heritage obtain a bachelor’s degree. It is available to community college students who plan to transfer to a four-year institution the following academic year.

  • Must be of Hispanic or Hispanic descent
  • Must be a U.S citizen or legal permanent resident
  • Must be pursuing a first undergraduate or graduate degree
  • Must be a part-time or full-time student
  • Have a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher.
  • Must have applied for Federal Financial Aid

HOME DEPOT SCHOLARSHIP AWARD

Home Depot has joined with HACU to offer a scholarship award for full-time or part-time undergraduate students attending 2 or 4 year institutions.  All majors are welcome. HACU represents over 450 member and partner colleges and universities collectively serving three out of every four of the nation’s 2 million Hispanic higher education students. Only students attending these HACU member Institutions such as Hostos Community College are eligible for the scholarships.

Eligibility Criteria’s

  • Must be a U.S citizen or legal Permanent Resident
  • Must be attending full-time or part-time for the Spring 2008 semester
  • Must plan to register for the 2008-2009 academic year
  • Have a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher.
  • Demonstrate financial need
  • Must be eligible for federal financial aid

MASTERCARD SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

The Mastercard Scholarship Program offers $10,000 scholarships for students from the greater metropolitan areas of New York, Miami, and St. Louis as well students form California or Texas.  Eligible students will also be pursuing degrees in business or accounting.

  • Must be a U.S citizen or legal permanent resident

  • Must plan to enroll full-time for the 2008-2009 academic year

MELANI SCHOLARSHIP FUND

The Melani Scholarship honors undergraduate women in good standing with a g.p.a of 3.3 within CUNY.

Eligibility Criteria’s

  • Must be an undergraduate degree in any unit of CUNY
  • Must have completed 36 credits (community college) or 60 credits (senior college) by June 2008
  • Must have a g.p.a of 3.3 or higher
  • Must demonstrate financial need
  • Must continue your undergraduate studies at CUNY

THE SALLIE MAE 911 EDUCATION FUND

The Sallie Mae 911 Education Fund was created in response to the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.  The scholarship is open to children of those who were killed or permanently disabled as a result of the terrorist attacks, and who are enrolled full-time undergraduate students at approved, accredited institutions.  Scholarship awards of up to $2,500 per applicant, per school year, are available and may be renewed on an annual basis, subject to satisfactory academic progress.

Eligibility Criteria’s

  • Must be enrolled full time
  • Lost a parent/s in September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks

OR

  • Living with a parent suffering debilitating injuries as a result of 911 terrorist attacks
  • Be successful in school
  • Show a desire to make the most out of college

THE SALLIE MAY FUND “UNMET NEED’ SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

The Sallie Mae Fund Scholarship program was established to support low-income youths who are academically prepared to pursue postsecondary education full-time, but confront significant barriers that make this aspiration impossible. For many, the unmet need of a student-the gap between the college cost and the financial aid package is often too big to manage. The GPA range was established to provide lower-income students with average grades the opportunity to attend college.

Eligibility Criteria’s

  • Must be a U.S citizen or Permanent Resident
  • Demonstrate unmet financial need of more than $1,000 after the financial aid package has been determined
  • Have a combined family adjusted gross income of $30,000 or less for 2007
  • Have a cumulative grade point of 2.5 or higher
  • Must meet Federal and State Financial Aid qualifications
  • Should have applied for financial aid for the 2008-2009 academic year
  • Must be registered full-time for the 2008-2009 academic year (Fall 2008 and Spring 2009)

SODEXHO SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

The Sodexho Foundation is committed to being a driving and creative force that contributes to a hunger-free nation.  In order to eliminate hunger that affects 38 million people in the U.S., we must fight its root causes.  The Sodexho Foundation supports innovative programs to help children and families in the United States who are battling problems like poverty, unemployment, lack of education, and food insecurity.  Sodexho has partnered with the Hispanic College fund in HCF’s mission to develop the next generation of Hispanic leaders who will become successful professionals and eventually give back to the Hispanic community.

Eligibility Criteria’s

  • Must be of Hispanic or Hispanic descent
  • Must be a U.S citizen or legal permanent resident
  • Must be a full-time student
  • Must plan to enroll full-time for the 2008-2009 academic year
  • Have a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher.

Talbot’s Women’s Scholarship Fund

The Talbots Women’s Scholarship Fund, a program of the Talbots Charitable Foundation, awards scholarships to women determined to finally get that college degree since earning a high school diploma or GED more than 10 years ago.  Five women will each be awarded $10,000 scholarships, and 50 women will each be awarded $1,000 scholarships.  Only applicants seeking a bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university are eligible to receive a $10,000 award.

Eligibility Criteria’s

  • Must be a woman currently residing in the United States
  • Must be a woman who have earned a high school diploma or their GED on or before September 1998
  • Must be enrolled or planning to enroll in a full or part time in a two year or four year accredited college, university, or vocational technical school
  • Must be attending the full time for the 2008 - 2009 academic year and receive a degree no earlier than May 2009
  • Have at least two semesters (24 credits hours or more) remaining to complete and undergraduate degree as of the beginning of the 2008 fall academic term.

TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO EX-POLICE ASSOCIATION INTERNATIONAL (NY CHAPTER), INC.

The Trinidad and Tobago Ex-Police (International) Inc. is extending the opportunity of limited scholarships to candidates who fulfill criteria based on worthiness, eligibility and qualification combined.

Eligibility Criteria’s

  • Must be Caribbean/West Indian descent.
  • Must plan to register for the Fall 2007 and Spring 2008

USS MERIT SCHOLARSHIP AWARD

The Academic Scholarship Fund was established in 1995 by the University Student Senate of the City University of New York. The fund consists of three yearly awards per campus which recognizes students with exceptional academic achievements and outstanding involvement in extracurricular activities.

Eligibility Criteria’s

  • Must be a U.S Citizen , Permanent Resident or International Student defined by a visa status
  • Must have a G.P.A of 3.50 or higher
  • Must have registered for a minimum of 6 academic credits for the Spring 2008 semester
  • Must register for a minimum of 6 academic credits for the Fall 2008 and Spring 2009 semester.
  • Must have completed 24 academic credits (No more than 96 academic credits)
  • Must have at least 30 credits or more left for graduation
  • Must have performed community service

Scholarship Amount:  $1,000

WACHOVIA SCHOLARSHIP AWARD

Wachovia Bank has joined with HACU to offer a scholarship award for full-time students majoring in Business Administration or Accounting.

  • Must be majoring in Business Administration or Accounting
  • Must be attending full-time for the Spring 2008 semester
  • Must plan to register for the 2008-2009 academic year
  • Have a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher.

WAL-MART ACHIEVERS AWARD

The Wal-Mart Achievers Award is a $1,000 scholarship available to full-time undergraduate students enrolled in their sophomore of junior year at U.S mainland institution.  It is preferable, that the student is working while attending school, and have an interest in retail.

Women’s Forum Educational Award

The Women’s Forum Educational Award is a unique initiative to encourage mature women to fulfill their potential through the pursuit of education and to enhance their capacities to provide productive and supportive service to their communities.

Eligibility Criteria’s

  • Must be a female over the age of 35 years old
  • Reside in New York City
  • Have attended a college in New York City during the 2006-2007 academic year
  • Must be enrolled for at least 6 academic credits for 2007-2008
  • Education must have been interrupted for some time, and are now pursing an undergraduate college degree.
  • Must have at least one additional semester to complete graduation requirements after June 2008
  • Must have applied for Federal Financial Aid
