The Social Sciences Unit at Hostos provides classes in three main fields of study: history, political science, and economics. While focusing on different subject matters, these disciplines share at heart an interest in human society and a research methodology based on scientific and quantitative reasoning, critical evaluation, and logical thinking. Through the study of the Social Sciences students will broaden their understanding of the socio-economic, political, and cultural forces that have helped shape the modern world, strengthening at the same time core competencies and writing skills needed to succeed in today’s increasingly competitive society. They will not only learn about key historical events, economic developments, and political affairs, but they will also be exposed to rigorous research, academic writing and critical methods of investigation that will better prepare them for four-year colleges and beyond.
