Academic Interest:

Professor Sandy Figueroa came to Hostos Community College in 1979 in the then Secretarial Science Department. In January of 2000, she transferred to the Computer Information Systems and Technology Unit.

Professional Activities:

  • Member of the National Business Education Association (NBEA) and has served on the executive board as the Eastern Business Education Representative to NBEA.
  • Member of the Eastern Business Education Association and has served on the executive board for nine years
  • Member of Delta Pi Epsilon, the National Graduate Society for Business Education. Professor Figueroa was the 1989 President of Alpha Chapter of Delta Pi Epsilon. For three years, she served on the National Delta Pi Epsilon Awards Committee.
Honors:
  • New York Assembly Citation — Assemblyman Thomas Alfano’s Women of Distinction in recognition for Leadership in the Professions and Community Service — July 2005
  • Eastern Business Education Association Post Secondary Educator of the Year — 1998
  • Delta Pi Epsilon Alpha Chapter Leadership Award — 1992
  • Volunteer Activities:
  • Professor Figueroa is an Associate member of the Sisters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul of New York.
  • Member of the North American Conference of Associates and Religious (NACAR) serves on the NACAR Board as secretary.
  • Member of the Parish Council of St. Boniface parish in Elmont.
  • Professor Figueroa teaches the high school Confirmation class in the Religious Education program of St. Boniface.
  • President of the St. Boniface Conference of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.
  • Serves as a lector and Eucharistic Minister at St. Boniface.
  • Recording Secretary of the Argo Civic Association.
