At the Hostos Academic Learning Center (HALC), we are committed to providing high-quality educational support to students of all backgrounds and learning styles. We look for knowledgeable, professional, and dedicated tutors to support students in various subjects. As a tutor, you will have the opportunity to work with students and help them build the skills and confidence they need to succeed academically.

Qualifications
  • Grade of B+ or better in the course(s) they are interested in tutoring.
  • Overall GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Applicants must also submit a resume, a faculty recommendation letter and transcript(s).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills are required to engage students and explain and discuss concepts with others
  • Able to effectively communicate study strategies with students to ensure academic success
  • Comfortable working with people from diverse backgrounds
  • Possess excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Exhibit patience and positive attitudes in establishing an encouraging learning environment
Responsibilities:
  • Use meaningful and engaging activities in tutoring sessions to facilitate the processing of course material and development of study strategies
  • Participate in all program meetings and professional development, including pre-semester training orientation.
  • Create and collect materials for sessions
  • Complete tutoring log and attendance verification for each session(s)
  •  Facilitate the development of study skills and guide students with step-by-step approach when completing class assignments
  • Assist students with new technological learning tools
  • Facilitate and conduct workshops

  • Flexible schedule
  • Maximum 19hr/wk.
  • Starting at $16.50/hr.
