Student Eligibility & Support

  1. Who is eligible for CUNY Reconnect? To qualify for the CUNY Reconnect program at Hostos Community College, you must:

  • Be a New York State resident or eligible for in-state tuition
  • Be between the ages of 25–55
  • Not currently hold a college degree
  • Enroll in an approved associate degree program at Hostos Community College
  1. Is the program for current students or only new students?
    Both. If you're already enrolled in an eligible associate degree program at Hostos, you're eligible.

  2. I already have college credits. Will they count toward my degree?
    Yes. CUNY encourages credit for prior learning. Hostos will evaluate your transcripts to determine what credits transfer.

  3. If I earned a certificate and want to pursue an associate degree, am I eligible?
    Yes. As long as you have not earned a degree, you are eligible.

  4. Can I attend part-time? How long do I have to finish?
    Yes, you may attend part-time or full-time. You must take at least 6 credits per semester and complete your degree within 10 semesters.

  5. I'm 24 now but turn 25 after the semester starts. Am I eligible?
    No. You must be 25–55 years old on the first day of classes to qualify for that semester.

  6. Do I need to maintain a certain GPA?
    Yes. You must remain in good academic standing according to Hostos and your program’s requirements.


Financial Aid & Opportunity Promise

  1. What does the program cover?
    Tuition, Fees, and Books

  2. How much funding will I receive?
    You must file a FAFSA, apply for TAP and, if eligible, the NYS Dream Act. After all awards are applied, the program covers any remaining balance. 

  3. Do I have to apply for loans to qualify?
    No. You are not required to apply for federal loans to be eligible.

  4. I owe a past balance. Can I still enroll?
    Yes. You can enroll, but past balances must be resolved with Hostos. These are not covered under this program.

  5. I get in-state tuition through the Dream Act or GI Bill. Am I eligible?
    Yes. Anyone receiving in-state tuition is eligible for this program. 

  6. What if I don’t finish? Will I owe money back?
    No. You will not be required to repay funds from this program if you do not complete your degree.

  7. I’m in another program (e.g., ASAP, EOP). Can I still qualify?
    Yes. Reconnect funding will be appliedafter all other financial aid.

  8. How do I get books and supplies?
    Hostos will apply funds directly to your student account to be used for books and supplies. Contact the campus bookstore or financial aid office for specific procedures.

  1. What programs are eligible?
    Approved programs are in high-demand fields.  Check the list of  eligible programs or contact an Admissions Advisor for a full list.

  2. Are online and evening programs available?
    Yes, online and evening classes are available. Check the Schedule of Classes each semester for current offerings.

  3. Are summer and winter courses covered?
    Yes. Courses during summer and winter sessions are eligible if they are part of your approved program.


Support Services

  1. Will Hostos help me find a job after graduation?
    Yes. Hostos offers career services, employer partnerships, and job placement resources.

  2. What kind of advisement will I receive?
    You’ll receive dedicated academic advisement throughout your enrollment. Advisors will assist with degree planning, scheduling, and career goals.

  3. Is childcare available on campus?
    Yes. Contact the Hostos Children’s Center to learn more about on-campus childcare options.
