Community Advisory Council (CAC)

Purpose Statement

Established during October 2020, by then Interim President Daisy Cocco De Filippis, Ph.D., the Hostos Community College Advisory Council will provide support and input from New York City Metro area business, academic, and community leaders to enhance opportunities for student advancement along career paths and toward higher education degrees.

Composed of 72 representatives, the Community Advisory Council will meet three times a year, in October, March, and June. Members will serve for a three-year appointment. Community Advisory Council members will engage in dialogue with campus leaders to strengthen connections between academic programs and NYC Metro area career building/workforce development opportunities.

The Community Advisory Council will also play a role in facilitating conversations about the skills, educational background, training, and experiences most sought after by prospective employers in leading local, regional, and national industry areas.

Ultimately, the Community Advisory Council will support the College’s capacity to achieve its core mission: to ensure intellectual growth and socio-economic mobility through higher education for all who seek it - including Latinx, Black and other students historically excluded - intentionally designing the college experience so that every Hostos student achieves the proficiencies needed for lifelong learning and academic and career success.
