Deadline: December 1, 2014
2014 is the 175th anniversary of the birth of philosopher and educator Eugenio María de Hostos. As part of the Hostos 175 celebrations happening throughout the year, we are pleased to announce the Hostos Student Essay Contest. Our goal is to collect writings from students which deal with any aspect of the life and ideas of our college's namesake. To get you started, we have collected a series of articles on Hostos, translations of his work, and library resources here.
The contest will have 3 categories. Awards will be given for the best essay on Hostos the man and/or his ideas by:
-any student who is currently enrolled in or has successfully completed an ENG 110 course (or equivalent)
-any student who has yet to enroll in an ENG 110 course (or equivalent)
-any student who writes his or her essay in Spanish
A student may only submit an essay to one category.
*Winners will be recognized at Honors Convocation (Fall 2015) and published in Escriba, our college student literary and art journal.
Essays should be no longer than 5 double spaced pages (excluding the works cited page), and use Times New Roman, 12 pt. font, and 1 inch margins. Either Chicago, APA, or MLA citation styles will be accepted.
Please email your completed paper to Professor Ernest Ialongo at eialongo@hostos.cuny.edu as a Word attachment by midnight December 1.
