The Hostos Research Center (HRC) serves to advance the development of new faculty and staff-led research projects, faculty-student mentorship, creation of student research internships, and capacity-building to help faculty secure external funding. The mission of the HRC is to foster a culture of research and grants development and enhance students’ access to professional experiences. The HRC will lead several initiatives to build stronger faculty and student collaborations through internal grant funding that supports research projects and provides opportunities to develop students’ research skills through hands-on work experiences. Faculty will have increased access to internal grant opportunities to conduct research that will expand knowledge on teaching and learning practices, address critical issues in the community, and students will have opportunities to engage in experiential learning including internships, apprenticeships, and service learning under faculty and staff guidance. The HRC is also supported by the active engagement of the Hostos Committee on Sponsored Programs and Grants (CSPG).
Goals:
- Promote research on teaching and learning to gain knowledge on the implementation of high-impact educational practices.
- Disseminate faculty and staff research findings via presentation, discussion, and publication.
- Promote research, including intra- and inter-departmental collaboration, external collaboration, and team building.
- Identify institutional needs and strengths to be translated into funding opportunities maximizing our capacity building and possibilities.
- Promote guidance and support for student access to professional experiential activities and partnerships with external institutions.
The HRC is open to support faculty, students, and staff in developing their research, promote faculty-student mentoring, provide grant writing workshops and professional development opportunities, and is available to host special research presentations.
