Get Started — New Student Steps. After you register for classes, make sure to complete the steps below:
Step 1: Claim Your Hostos Technology Accounts
- Activate Your Hostos/CUNY Email & Webmail: Use the Hostos email lookup and Webmail login to access your campus email once it’s ready. This is how professors and staff will contact you.
- Activate Your CUNYfirst Account, your central hub for:
- Registering for classes
- Viewing your schedule
- Paying your bill
- Accessing grades and academic records
Step 2: Pay Your Tuition
Registration details and process are available on the Hostos Registration page.
Even with financial aid, you are responsible for ensuring tuition is paid before classes begin. Please check deadlines and aid status early.
- Tuition and Fees - Your financial aid is based on a Cost of Attendance Budget, which includes tuition, books, supplies, transportation, and personal expenses.
- Payment Options - The Bursar’s Office offers payment plans and other resources. You can also pay through your CUNYFirst account.

Step 3: Access Brightspace
- Brightspace is the system professors use to deliver course materials, assignments, grades, and announcements.
- Brightspace Student Hub
- How to log in: Use your CUNYfirst login credentials. Your dashboard will show your courses once you’re registered
Making the transition to college is exciting! FYE Orientation will help you:
- Understand academic expectations
- Learn about student support services
- Meet advisors and peers
- and enroll into classes!
Orientation schedules are communicated via email after you register for classes — look for that invitation!
Step 5: Prepare for Your First Day
To ensure you’re ready to learn on Day 1: Go to CUNYfirst to view your schedule
- Review Your Class Schedule
- Check your course details via CUNYfirst. You’ll see:
- Days and times
- Instruction mode (in-person, hybrid, online)
- Get Your Textbooks: Check Brightspace or CUNYfirst for textbook lists, then order or purchase through the Hostos Bookstore.
- Check the Academic Calendar: Important dates like add/drop deadlines, holidays, & exams are in the Academic Calendar.
