Associate Professor Inmaculada Lara-Bonilla, Ph.D. director of the Latin American Writers Institute and Chief Editor of the journal announces the launch of Issue No 16 of the Hostos Review / Revista Hostosiana. The virtual event will welcome Interim President Daisy Cocco De Filippis and Acting Provost Dr. Charles Drago.
Composed and prefaced by guest editors Dr. Claudia Salazar Jiménez and Dr. Larry La Fountain-Stokes, the issue includes poetry, fiction, and chronicle in English or Spanish by eighteen contributing authors from across the Americas: Achy Obejas, Charles Rice-González, Clara Inés Giraldo Mejía, Gabby De Cicco, Gisela Kozak, Johan Mijail, Juan Pablo Sutherland, Laura Arnés, Mariana Docampo, Odette Alonso, Raquel Gutierrez, Raquel Salas Rivera, Rigoberto Gonzalez, SaSa Testa, Susana Chávez-Silverman, Urayoán Noel, Vero Ferrari and Yolanda Arroyo Pizarro.
Additional collaboration includes our own Digital Design student Félix Desiderio, guided by Professor Simona Prives, as the issue designer. A remarkable piece of photographic work held at the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery was donated to the journal for the front cover by renowned Puerto Rican photographer Luis Carle.
The issue was conceived of as a space for authors and scholars to engage in a much-needed trans-American dialogue about what it means to write queer/cuir literature nowadays in Latin America, the Caribbean, and the United States. This event expands this opportunity to expand a fascinating dialogue on this experience with a larger public across languages and borders, as it will include readings and comments Spanish and English.
