Eugenio María de Hostos Community College is thrilled to share that 100% of the 39 Hostos dental hygiene students who took the Simulated Patient Treatment Clinical Examination (SPTCE) ADEX Licensure Exam this spring have passed!

“Our faculty and staff congratulate the Class of 2024 on this amazing accomplishment,” said Professor Salim Rayman, Dental Hygiene Unit Coordinator. “We are so proud of them for their hard work and perseverance through these past two years, and we wish them all the best in their future endeavors.”

The SPTCE evaluates candidates on their clinical skills, including detection and removal of calculus, accurate periodontal pocket depth measurements and tissue management, and it is one component of the ADEX Dental Hygiene Examination. Candidates must also take a Computer Simulated Clinical Examination (CSCE) OSCE designed to assess diagnosis and treatment planning knowledge and skills.

This isn’t the first time the program has boasted a perfect pass rate. In 2020, all 37 students who took the fall exam 100% passed.

The Dental Hygiene program at Hostos offers two- and three-year course studies, during which students are prepared to become registered dental hygienists and pass National Board and Clinical State Board examinations. Students also provide preventive dental health care at the College’s on-site dental hygiene patient care facility — which offers free dental hygiene care to the community — for patients under the direct guidance and supervision of licensed professional dental hygienists and dentists.
