Tuesday, September 24, 2013 (Bronx, NY) - Literal Publishing of Houston, Texas, and the North American Academy of the Spanish Language have released Diálogos conmigo y mis otros (Dialogues with myself and my others), a new collection of poems by the acclaimed award-winning Peruvian novelist and poet Isaac Goldemberg.

Every poem in the collection is preceded by one or more epigraphs. The first, entitled “Prefacio,” explains the intention of the book: These poems are the dialogue / that they maintain with the epigraphs / and these epigraphs are the dialogue / that they maintain with the poems. / But without knowing it.”

Likewise, the brief epigrammatical poems in the book are also dialogues between the poet and other poets from different time periods about the poetic creative process and poetry itself.

In the words of the Argentine poet and critic Luis Benítez, “The uniqueness of Diálogos conmigo y mis otros is that it offers great universal themes in the fluid and easily understood language that is the personal seal of Goldemberg’s work, where humor and refined irony run rampant; however, it should be noted that these are always used by the poet as the best means of inducing reflection on the human condition, one of the nuclei of meaning in his poetry.”

“In these poems,” Benítez continues, “Goldemberg’s language expands from the depth of his being outward to encompass the past and present condition of being Jewish and Peruvian…Goldemberg is one of the most original poets of our time, endowed with an extraordinary mastery of words, put to the service of humanism and able to withstand any test.”

The National Literature Prize-winning Chilean poet Oscar Hahn affirms that “in the poems of Diálogos conmigo y mis otros, great wisdom about life and the role of human beings on this planet is expressed in sober and reflective language.”
