Hostos Community College is proud to announce that Lisanette Rosario, our Director of Career Services, has been honored with the Education Award at the New York League of Puerto Rican Women’s 16th Annual Scholarship Gala. The event, held at Marina del Rey in the Bronx on Thursday, August 8, recognized Rosario’s unwavering dedication and commitment to empowering students through career advisement. Her work has significantly impacted the lives of many within our community.

“This award is a testament to the values we uphold at Hostos—breaking barriers and creating opportunities—and I’m proud to be part of this legacy,” said Rosario. “This accolade is a powerful reminder of the impact education has had on my life, starting at Hostos. As Director of Career Services, I see firsthand how education transforms lives, just as it did mine. Hostos empowered me to become independent and self-sufficient, and now, as I pursue my Ph.D., I tell our students: with education and some experience, any career is possible.”

Community Relations Dean Ana García Reyes was in attendance and proudly presented Lisanette Rosario with her award, underscoring the College's commitment to fostering excellence and supporting the achievements of our staff and students alike.

After being introduced, Rosario addressed the attendees and shared a heartfelt message about her journey, reflecting on the challenges and triumphs that have shaped her commitment to student success.

Growing up in a low-income household in the Bronx, she faced numerous obstacles, including becoming a teen mother and losing her brother to gun violence. Yet these challenges only strengthened her resolve to succeed. With her mother’s encouragement, she took a pivotal step and enrolled in Hostos, the small college near her home, a decision that ultimately transformed her life.

“Today, I have the privilege of uplifting students who, like me, are navigating their own unique paths. Seeing them grow professionally, contribute to our community, and empower the next generation of students is one of my greatest joys,” she added.

In addition to Rosario’s achievement, Hostos is also celebrating Monique Vasquez, a recent graduate from the Class of 2024 who was awarded one of the scholarships during the event. Vasquez’s accomplishment reflects the strength and potential of our students and the support they receive from the Hostos community.

The College is beaming with pride as our women continue to lead the way and inspire future generations!
