Hostos Community College’s Joint Dual Engineering Degree Program with The City College of New York's Grove School of Engineering
Receives
INSIGHT Into Diversity Magazine’s 2021 Inspiring Programs in STEM Award

National Recognition of Programs That Are Making a Difference for
All Underrepresented Groups in the Fields of Science, Technology,
Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM)

Eugenio María de Hostos Community College’s Joint Dual Engineering Degree Program with The City College of New York's Grove School of Engineering (CCNY's GSoE) received the 2021 Inspiring Programs in STEM Award from INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine, the largest and oldest diversity and inclusion publication in higher education. The Inspiring Programs in STEM Award honors colleges and universities that encourage and assist students from underrepresented groups to enter the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Hostos Community College will be featured, along with 78 other recipients, in the September 2021 issue of INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine.

Inspiring Programs in STEM Award winners were selected by INSIGHT Into Diversity based on efforts to inspire and encourage a new generation of young people to consider careers in STEM through mentoring, teaching, research, and successful programs and initiatives.

“This recognition is tremendously meaningful. The Hostos Joint Dual Engineering Degree Program with City College was an important undertaking when it first began and today it proves it has bloomed and is impacting the future of STEM. For that, I am incredibly proud of our faculty and students,” said Hostos President Dr. Daisy Cocco De Filippis.

INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine selected Hostos’ Joint Dual Engineering Degree Program with City College’s GSoE because of its commitment to providing its diverse student body with a strong foundation in science and mathematics and prepares them to earn advanced degrees in STEM fields.

“We know that many STEM programs are not always recognized for their success, dedication, and mentorship for underrepresented students,” says Lenore Pearlstein, owner and publisher of INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine. “We want to honor the schools and organizations that have created programs that inspire and encourage young people who may currently be in or are interested in a future career in STEM. We are proud to honor these programs as role models to other institutions of higher education and beyond.”

A call for nominations for this award was announced in April 2021.

“We are thrilled and humbled by this national recognition,” said Yoel Rodríguez, Ph.D., Professor in the Physical Sciences Unit of Hostos’ Natural Sciences Department. “Our engineering students deserved it. Their hard work and perseverance speak volumes. This award is only possible because of Hostos-GSoE’s collective effort that helps provide students with the best educational experience, maintaining the highest standards, and contributing to the diversity of the STEM workforce. We are grateful to all Hostos STEM programs, faculty, staff, and administration. Thank you all for the continued support!”
