The Hostos Community College Caimans cemented their dominance on the hardwood on Friday, February 20, defeating Queensborough Community College 65–63 to win the 2026 CUNY Community College Men’s Basketball Championship and secure their third consecutive CUNY-wide title.

In a tightly contested championship matchup that came down to the final possessions, the Caimans demonstrated the resilience, discipline, and championship mentality that have defined this historic three-peat run. The victory further strengthens Hostos’ legacy as one of the premier programs in the history of CUNY athletics.

“This remarkable achievement reflects the discipline, resilience, and excellence of our student-athletes, coaches, and the entire Athletics program. Winning a third consecutive championship is not only a testament to their talent on the court, but also to their commitment to academic and personal growth as leaders,” said Dr. Daisy Cocco De Filippis, Hostos President. “We celebrate this proud moment for Hostos and for the South Bronx, which continues to inspire the determination and spirit shown by our Caimans.”

Harry Bonilla has had a remarkable season, reaching over 1,000 career points this season and earning the Championship Game MVP recognition.

Sophomore standout Harry Bonilla was named Championship Game MVP, delivering a clutch performance that helped seal the win and etch this year’s team into the record books.

The Hostos women’s basketball team also represented the College with pride throughout the season, advancing to the semifinal round. Although their loss on Friday marked the first time in eight years they did not capture the conference title, their competitive spirit and commitment remained evident throughout the season.

“I am very proud of all our coaches and student-athletes for their performance all season,” said Brent Wilson, Hostos Athletics Director. “Both teams have represented us very well all season. I am looking forward to seeing them this week in the Region XV Tournament, and I am excited to see how they finish the season.”

The success and growth of the men’s basketball program would not be possible without the leadership and dedication of Head Coach Kenneth Stevens. He is supported by Associate Head Coach Howie Harrison and Assistant Coaches James “Speedy” Williams, Tracey Lewis, and Anthony Bligen, whose commitment, experience, and mentorship are integral to developing student-athletes. Together, this coaching staff fosters a culture of discipline, teamwork, and achievement that continues to elevate the program.

Hostos will host the opening round of the NJCAA Region XV Men’s Basketball Tournament on Wednesday, February 25, as the No. 4-seeded Caimans welcome No. 5 Suffolk County Community College to The Swamp for a 7 p.m. tip-off. The home matchup marks the start of Hostos’ postseason run, giving fans an opportunity to cheer on the Caimans as they look to build on their championship momentum in front of their home crowd.

We congratulate our student-athletes, coaches, and supporters for their dedication and unwavering commitment to excellence.

Go Caimans!
