Hostos Community College is pleased to announce that its Registered Nurse and Licensed Practical Nursing programs have been awarded accreditation by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing for the first time. In addition to our New York State accreditation, this national recognition reflects the College’s ongoing commitment to excellence in nursing education and to preparing highly skilled, compassionate healthcare professionals to serve the community.

While state approval allows a program to operate and prepares you for licensure, ACEN accreditation improves your chances of getting hired beyond your home state (NYS), makes it easier to transfer credits or pursue advanced degrees, and ensures the program is regularly evaluated for strong outcomes like NCLEX (National Council Licensure Examination) pass rates.

The achievement follows a sustained effort led by faculty and academic leadership. The College extends its sincere appreciation and congratulations to Professor Diana Macri, Chair of Allied Health, and Professor Ronette Shaw, Coordinator of the Nursing Program, for their leadership and dedication throughout the accreditation process. Their work, along with the contributions of faculty and staff, has been instrumental in reaching this milestone.

“This accreditation represents a significant accomplishment for Hostos Community College and affirms the quality and rigor of our nursing programs,” said Andrea Fabrizio, Ph.D., Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost. “We are proud of the commitment demonstrated by our faculty and look forward to celebrating this achievement with the entire College community.”

The ACEN accreditation is a mark of program quality and integrity, ensuring that students receive an education that meets national standards and prepares them for success in the nursing profession.

This recognition comes at a pivotal moment for the College as Hostos expands its campus into the historic Bronx General Post Office Building at 558 Grand Concourse. The new space will serve as a hub for Allied Health and Nursing students, providing expanded classrooms, updated laboratories, and a hands-on learning environment that will strengthen clinical training and academic support. Together, the new facilities and national ACEN accreditation will further propel students into their future careers.

Hostos Community College remains dedicated to advancing academic excellence and supporting student success through high-quality, accredited programs.
