Hostos Community College Biology Professor Vyacheslav Dushenkov received a Fulbright Specialist Program award to establish partnerships at the Universiti Teknologi MARA in Malaysia.

“This is a very important step in my career as my work using educational technologies at Hostos gets international recognition,” said Professor Dushenkov, who has been for over a decade at the College and is one of over 400 U.S. citizens who share expertise with host institutions abroad annually as part of the exchange program.

He is currently a member of the College-wide Hostos Online Committee and is involved in collecting data and analyzing the success of innovative online curricula.

In Malaysia, he will exchange ideas with scholars at the host institution about his project, “Gearing Towards the Education of Post-COVID-19 Era,” which seeks to develop sustainable infrastructures to effectively implement distance learning modalities based on pedagogical research.

Professor Dushenkov is part of the Hostos Online Committee, a College-wide initiative created to offer high-quality, completely asynchronous online degrees.

Recipients of Fulbright Specialist awards are selected based on academic and professional achievement, demonstrated leadership in their field, and their potential to foster long-term cooperation between institutions in the U.S. and abroad.

The Fulbright Program is the flagship international educational exchange program sponsored by the U.S. government. It is designed to build lasting connections between the people of the United States and the people of other countries. Funded mainly by the U.S. Department of State, participating institutions in over 160 countries worldwide support the program as well.
