2020 Thanksgiving Food Drive
Eugenio María de Hostos Community College held its Thanksgiving food basket giveaway on Tuesday, November 24, 2020. Staff and students came together proving that from pre-pandemic impromptu lunches and campus-wide events to pandemic-era food drives, at Hostos, the unspoken motto is no one goes hungry. Throughout this tumultuous year and because of the collective and collaborative efforts from Student Development and Enrollment Management—The One-Stop Health and Wellness Center, One Stop Program, the Division of Institutional Advancement, Division of Administration and Finance—buildings and grounds, facilities and public safety, food distribution has been made available to students and their families.

“During these difficult times, I am grateful that I have the opportunity to help others,” said Madeline Cruz, Coordinator of the Hostos One-Stop Program. “Through the years, I learned that by helping one student, maybe I cannot change the world, but I can change the world of the student.”

Interim President Daisy Cocco De Filippis attended the food drive to support the effort and meet and greet with students, staff, as well as Director of the One-Stop Health and Wellness Center, Fabian Wander; One-Stop Coordinator, Madeline Cruz; and Development Manager, Idelsa Méndez.

“It was very meaningful for us to come together to show that Hostos cares. I particularly enjoyed meeting our students’ children, urging them to focus on their studies and thanking them for trusting us to help them achieve their dreams for a better future. Mil gracias y bendiciones, SGA leadership and all our volunteers,” said Interim President Cocco De Filippis.

The One-Stop Health and Wellness Center would like to thank the student volunteers Muiz Agbaje, Mustafa Ahmed, Hatem Anaam, Yanira Arias, Brian Carter, Monsita Colón, Fatoumata Diallo, Susan Cortes, Charles Dour, Amdiya Keymtore, Alaa MUHARRAM, Mohamed Nasher, Somaya Nasher, Nicole Rodríguez, Isabel Neira Sanchez, Keana Santana, and Nahomy Toribio for their time and leadership.

And Fabian Wander, would like to acknowledge the work, dedication, and support of the Hostos public safety officers, laborers, custodians, and of course, the Office of the President.
