Interim President Daisy Cocco De Filippis will recognize former SGA President Muiz Agbaje (2019-2020) and SGA Secretary and Senator Isabel Neira Sánchez for their exemplary student service during their time at Hostos.
Both distinguished themselves in their responses to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic; Isabel volunteered at Lincoln Hospital and Muiz worked to provide fellow students with tuition assistance and help fight food insecurity.
“I actively engaged in community service and volunteered at a local hospital during the pandemic,” said Isabel. “I feel it is my calling to help others and do my best to keep people safe during these trying times”
Isabel is also the first person in her family to go to College, and her youngest sister is following in her footsteps and now attending Hostos. She served as Secretary and Senator of the Hostos SGA, was a member of the Hostos Leadership Academy, and has received several certificates and scholarships. Isabel credits Assistant Dean of Student Life Johanna Gómez, Development Officer Idelsa Méndez, and Interim President Cocco De Filippis for inspiring her to continue her education.
“I am very proud to be a Hostos graduate and look forward to attending a senior college in CUNY in the Fall 21 semester,” she shared.
Muiz finished his studies last winter and his service as President of the SGA concluded on January 29, 2021. He is taking a semester off and plans to attend Vaughn College of Aeronautics and Technology in the fall.
In recognition of their service and dedication to the community, both students will receive a certificate acknowledging their efforts, a book, and an award of $500.00 at this year’s Honors Convocation.
Congratulations to both!
