The
Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) has graciously made a $100,000 grant to the Hostos Community College Foundation in support of the
new Hostos Reengagement Program, which will be administered by the division of Student Development and Enrollment Management (SDEM) and it complements the College’s broader enrollment and retention goals.
In its first year, the program will enable SDEM to conduct outreach and reenroll a cohort of up to 100 students who will receive tuition relief and personalized support.
The Reengagement Program will provide tuition relief, enabling the College to bring back students who were compelled to defer their academic goals due to financial limitations. From 2020-2022, federal and state tuition relief programs helped hundreds of Hostos students to persist and continue their academic experience,
and this funding will support the extension of that effort now that federal and state tuition relief programs have concluded. The program, in conjunction with
CUNY Reconnect, will help the College to fulfill its commitment to support the success of each admitted student.
“We thank the SNF for continuing to be gracious champions of Hostos and for their generous grant, which will sustain our mission by ensuring that no limitation can halt the educational goals and progress of our students,” said Hostos President Daisy Cocco De Filippis.
To help returning students complete their degree affordably and efficiently, students will receive personalized degree maps and credit for prior learning screenings, and they may cross-enroll in credit-bearing certification programs with Hostos’ Division of Continuing Education and Workforce Development. The program will also connect students with the supplemental services available at the College, such as academic advising, social service screening, mental health and wellness services, financial aid application support, affordable child care, and more.
“This valued partnership with SNF will help students increase their earning power by completing their degrees and pursuing careers that are personally and financially rewarding,” added Vice President of Institutional Advancement Colette Atkins.
