With this in mind, Hostos students received a free "Financial Literacy Empowerment Workshop" on February 24, thanks to a partnership with Citi Community Development. Two Citi representatives, Lily López and Pat Edwards, provided a crash course in everything from building and monitoring credit, financial planning and saving, budgeting and more.

Nick Acosta, currently a business student and college assistant, who also works in Hostos’ Student Success Coaching Unit, said the program paid both immediate and future dividends.

“While it was very generous of the program to pay for one of my required courses, the true value came from the information that was presented by Ms. Edwards and Ms. Lopez,” Acosta said. “After Hostos, I plan to transfer to CUNY’s School of Professional Studies to pursue my BS in Business and Entrepreneurship. I dream to one day open my own martial arts academy to combine my passion of martial arts and owning a successful business of my own. The information learned from this program will help me make that happen.”
