The morning of Giving Tuesday – dubbed #CUNYTuesday at all 25 CUNY Colleges – donations to Hostos Community College were over $30,000. A respectable amount, but shy of the $35,000 goal. Thanks to tremendous efforts led by Development Officer Idelsa Méndez, the division of institutional advancement raised nearly $60,000 in one day, securing a total of $90,000 and counting. This amount shattered Hostos’ previous #CUNYTuesday record of $68,000 set in 2016. As of December 1, the #CUNYTuesday fundraising leaderboard showed Hostos ranked 1st among the community colleges, and 11th overall. This is quite an achievement considering that Hostos is one of the smallest and youngest CUNY schools.

This outstanding accomplishment would not have been possible without the dedicated support of faculty and staff who give through payroll deduction and one-time gifts and many other devoted friends of the College. The generosity of our Hostos family is a testament to the deep love the community holds for this institution. On behalf of the Foundation, we extend our immense gratitude to the campus community for their commitment to student success, including the many new faculty and staff members who visited us on the bridge to learn more about the mission of the Hostos Community College Foundation. We would like to acknowledge and thank Amazon, President Cocco De Filippis, the Feiner Family, Professor Cynthia Jones, CUNY Associate Vice Chancellor Dolly Martínez, Interim Dean of Continuing Education and Workforce Development Peter Mertens, CUNY Chancellor Félix Matos Rodríguez, Senior Vice President Esther Rodríguez-Chardavoyne, and Jerry and Eva Posman, Michael Potack, Ponce Bank, and Board Chairperson José Sanchéz-Kinghorn for their significant contributions.

This year’s campaign raised funds for Bridge Tuition Support Assistance (BTSA) and the Circle of 100 Emergency Fund. Both of these funds provide support for students facing unexpected expenses which could impede their academic progress. By supporting these financial relief programs, Hostos students are afforded opportunities to persist and achieve. If you have yet to make your gift, there is still time. You can donate through the online giving page until December 31, and if you are a CUNY employee, you can make a payroll deduction pledge until December 3. Once again, we extend our sincerest thanks to this devoted and caring community, who give so much of themselves to promote the student achievement at Hostos.
