HOPE Program

The Hostos Holistic Oasis for Parents’ Education (HOPE) Program, concluded its Summer session on August 1, 2022 with an Experiential Learning Showcase and Completion ceremony.

HOPE provided a full on-campus college experience for student parents and their children; 3D Model Holistic Programming for academic, family, and professional matters; healthy breakfasts, lunches and snacks; tuition-gap assistance for summer courses (6-9 credits); books; MetroCards; high-quality summer programming in STEM; and Experiential Learning Opportunities (ELOs).

NY State Assemblymember Amanda Septimo was on hand to help celebrate the students and their families. Hostos President Daisy Cocco De Filippis gladly acknowledged Professor Sarah Hoiland (HOPE PI and Project Director), Veronica Dingwall (HOPE Senior Coordinator), and Erika Francis (HOPE Program Assistant) for the hard work that led to this day.

Speaking to the parents, President Cocco De Filippis said she hoped that “you and your children have had a fulfilling and enriching experience with the HOPE team. How happy I was to hear your children were able to join you on campus for the STEM research presentations. Continue with your studies, remain curious – and encourage your families to do the same.”

Support for the HOPE Project is from the National Science Foundation's Division of Undergraduate Research (DUE) Programs for Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs) and Improving Undergraduate STEM Education (IUSE).
