COVID-19: Protecting Our Community on Campus

Keeping each other safe, together

It is critical that you, members of our campus community, continue to do what you’re used to doing everywhere.

When you’re here, you’ll need to:

We also have some campus-specific details you'll need to be aware of if you plan to visit. This includes doing symptom checks and getting permission to visit, but also means knowing the changes to how we move through buildings.

What we're doing on campus

We've been working constantly to ensure our campus environment is safe for everyone who's here.

COVID-19 is a highly contagious disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus. It can spread quickly when an infected person talks, coughs, or sneezes around others, even if that person doesn’t feel sick. Minimizing chances for the virus to travel from person to person is central to containing the spread of COVID-19.

From March until phase 1 of our reopening, limited operations continued on the Hostos campus in response to the needs of our college community. Essential staff continued to work some hours on campus. Their work was necessary to provide students, faculty, and staff with supports during NY on PAUSE that would minimize impact on students’ academic progress.
Throughout this time, we’ve worked hard to keep that smaller number of people safe, knowing that we were also preparing for the eventual reopening of our facilities. We’ve changed existing procedures and added new ones. We’ve installed new parts, purchased others, and ordered new equipment.

Our strategies to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in campus buildings fall into several categories:

We're making sure that everything we’ve done on campus, and will do, meets or exceeds CDC recommendations for preventing the spread of COVID-19.
