Special Bomba y Plena Presentation!




Hostos Center’s BomPlenazo festival is proud to partner with Pregones Theater on the kick-off event of their outdoor summer series Stage Garden Rumba on Sat., June 19, 2021. The festivities start at 3 p.m. with live outdoor performances of Bomba y Plena and culminates with a live-stream panel discussion on how visual artists explore Bomba y Plena through their artworks. Join in-person or online!

LIVE MUSIC

Live music at Pregones Theater’s Garden with Los Pleneros de la 21, Víctor Pablo y PaFincar, and Bámbula Project.


ART EXHIBIT OPENING
3:00 – 5:00 p.m.
Opening of the art exhibit S(Obras): Capturing The Unseen, a multimedia visual art exhibit by David Hernaíz Concepción capturing Bomba through the visual arts.


CONVERSATORIO – A PANEL DISCUSSION
5:00 – 6:00 p.m.
Pintando Figuras, a live-stream panel discussion on Puerto Rican Visual Artists' take on Bomba and Plena, featuring the works and voices of Martín García, Güillo Cruz “Króniko Arte”, and Agua, Sol y Sereno. Moderated by Mariana Reyes Angleró.



Pregones / PRTT is a partner of Hostos Center's BomPlenazo Festival. Stage Garden Rumba is their outdoors summer program - an open invitation for all New Yorkers to experience the cultural riches, green spaces, and vibrant Casitas of the South Bronx!

BomPlenazo is a biennial Festival, established in 2000, that presents and celebrates the practices and the communities of Puerto Rican Bomba and Plena, from both the island and diaspora communities. Produced by the Hostos Center for Arts & Culture and guided by an Advisory Committee of musical practitioners and community members, the BomPlenazo is made possible by funding support from: National Endowment for the Arts, the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs, the New York State Council on the Arts, The Howard Gilman Foundation, the offices of City Council member Rafael Salamanca, Jr. and New York State Assembly Jose Rivera.
