A Celebration of Dominican Music
Afro-Dominican with DULUC
Performance Premiere and Live Interview
Hosted by Dr. Paul Austerlitz

Blending Afro-Dominican music with jazz and rock, José Duluc - known world-wide as simply Duluc - is a major exponent of a new style of music called música de fusión (fusion music), as the genre came to be called. Born in Higüey, Duluc distinguished himself as a popular alternative music composer, dancer and folk percussionist and for his in-depth knowledge of major Afro-Dominican music genres such as gagá, palos, and congos. He is a founding member of the group Los Guerreros del Fuego and currently leads it with new compositions such as the popular El Animal. He has performed nationally and internationally at important festivals in Cuba, France, Mexico, Japan, USA, Russia and his beloved Dominican Republic. Join us in this performance premiere and live conversation with Duluc direct from Santo Domingo!

Dr. Paul Austerlitz is the Distinguished Visiting Research Professor at the Dominican Studies Institute of the City University of New York. He is an ethnomusicologist, musician and the author of two books: Merengue: Dominican Music and Dominican Identity and Jazz Consciousness: Music, Race and Humanity.
