Hostos Center for the Arts & Culture, in collaboration with the CUNY Dominican Studies Institute, is proud to premier A Celebration of Dominican Music series with professor and musician Dr. Paul Austerlitz. This four-part series focuses on the history and artistry of the major genres of Dominican Music with performances and interviews by some of the Dominican Republic’s most acclaimed musicians. Dr. Paul Austerlitz is the Distinguished Visiting Research Professor at the Dominican Studies Institute of the City University of New York. He is an ethnomusicologist, musician and the author of two books: Merengue: Dominican Music and Dominican Identity and Jazz Consciousness: Music, Race and Humanity. Dr. Austerlitz is a member of the Dominican Academy of Sciences.
