Broadway World recently reported that “25 years ago Repertorio Español was in rehearsals for a new production that would unknowingly change the theatrical history of the nation.” On February 28, 1996 Carmen Rivera's La Gringa premiered on the beloved stage of Repertorio, telling the timeless tale of a young woman born and raised in New York City who travels to Puerto Rico for the first time to meet her family and discover her roots. Adored and acclaimed by so many, La Gringa celebrates 25 years of continuous performances becoming one of the longest running productions in New York City regardless of language.
