Caridad De La Luz’s latest theatrical work envisions a future built on Indigenous-Afro-Taíno-Jíbaro culture and imagination. Original stories, visuals and songs with live music invite us ALL to imagine a better future for Puerto Rico.
From Poor to Rico's development was funded by the Jerome Hill Artist Fellowship, as Caridad De La Luz was selected to be part of its inaugural artist cohort, 2019-21.
The Bronx premiere of From Poor to Rico is produced by Pepatián in collaboration with the Hostos Center for the Arts & Culture. The project is supported by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council, support from the Bronx Council on the Arts through the New York State Council on the Arts Decentralization Program, and individual contributions to Pepatián: Bronx Arts ColLABorative. Additional support provided by the Coalition of Theaters of Color, the New York State Council for the Arts, the Howard Gilman Foundation, and the Offices of NYS Assemblyman José Rivera and NYC Councilmember Rafael Salamanca, Jr.
