Fall 2013 Financial Aid and Enrollment Information

Dear Student,

Welcome to the Fall 2013 semester at Hostos!

Please read carefully to the very end of this e-mail and tell your friends to check their e-mail too.  There are some important changes to financial aid and enrollment regulations.

CHECK YOUR ENROLLMENT
Please go online to check that your enrollment is still as you remember it.  Some students’ classes were dropped for various reasons.  Many rooms have been changed. When you attend a class, check that you are on the faculty class roster.

LATE REGISTRATION
Any student registering as of Wednesday, August 28th for the first time this semester, or reenrolling after being dropped for non-payment, will be charged a late registration fee of $25.  As the first day of classese please be aware that as soon as you enroll you have a financial liability.  It is essential that you verify your financial aid availability and know how you will pay for your classes BEFORE you enroll.  You should do your enrollment online via CUNYfirst in the lab, C-595.  If you encounter obstacles see your advisor or come to the Registrar’s office, D-207I.  The Registrar can NOT add you to a closed section of a class.

CHANGE OF PROGRAM WEEK
You have one week to make any necessary changes to your schedule of classes.  From Wednesday, August 28th – Tuesday, September 3rd at 3pm you can SWAP classes or sections if you need to make changes.  You should make these changes online in CUNYfirst.  Any special permissions must be obtained from the department chair or coordinator for the class in question.

During this week you should ONLY use the SWAP function in CUNYfirst to adjust your schedule. DO NOT do a drop/add because you will be charged 25% of the tuition cost of the dropped class, as required by the CUNY refund regulations. If you make the change using SWAP you avoid this.  Note that for each day you SWAP your classes you will be charged an $18 fee so try to make changes all on one day to minimize fees.

If you need to add a class - - you can add online at any time over this week up to 3pm on Tuesday, September 3rd.  After that day NO FURTHER CLASSES CAN BE ADDED TO YOUR SCHEDULE AND NO SWAPS CAN BE MADE.  You may drop a class online after September 3rd; due to refund policies and financial aid regulations you may lose money when you do this so please seek advice before taking action.

ACADEMIC CALENDAR
Please print out the revised Academic Calendar to see the full refund schedule and also to see the days when classes are not scheduled due to religious observances (5 days in September).  Note that Hostos will be open on those days so you can take care of business and use other College facilities. Weekend students: Please note that classes ARE in session on Saturday and Sunday of Labor Day weekend.

FINANCIAL AID CERTIFICATION
Just as your enrollment is LOCKED on September 3rd, so is your financial aid.  If you are not enrolled as a full-time student by this date you will not be able to add a class to become full-time later.  After September 3rd the only enrollment function in CUNYfirst that will be available to you is the “DROP” function.

YOUR PELL BOOK ADVANCE
Please make sure to review your direct deposit details for accuracy. If the bank account information is incorrect, it will delay receipt of any book advance/refund.  Check this information on CUNYfirst.  Go to:
