The play tells the story of three sisters from Puerto Rico’s upper social class, portrayed by celebrated veteran actresses Zulema Clares, Wanda Arriaga, and Mónica Steuer. As they begin to lose everything - their parents, social status, material possessions, and wealth - they retreat into their home on Cristo Street in Old San Juan.
Through their conversations, the Burkhart sisters reveal intertwined themes of love and jealousy, the passage of time (marked by change, powerlessness, and aging), and the American invasion of Puerto Rico. Together, these themes illuminate the sisters’ experiences of pain, victimization, and deep restlessness within Puerto Rican society.
