Conversaciones Música
A Conversation with Pete Bonet
and José Calderón

In the second of the Conversaciones Música series, José Calderón, co-host of The Mambo Machine on WKCR and guest host on WFDU’s Que Viva La Música, interviews Pete Bonet, one of the great salsa pioneers, who recently released his book The Corso: The Real Nuyorican Salsa Story.

Pete Bonet sang for Alfredito Valdez, Ray Barretto, and Mongo Santamaria before forming his own big band with Louie Ramírez. He continued to sing with over forty Latin music orchestras, including Joe Cuba, Tito Rodríguez and Tito Puente’s. Join José Calderón on this informative evening not only for the story of Bonet’s extraordinary musical success, but also for Bonet’s first-person account of the birth of “salsa” at its very beginnings in NYC.
